GOLD COAST LANGUAGE SCHOOLS
Student Agreement & Refund Policy
210708
The following is an agreement between Gold Coast Language Schools and its intending students. Please make sure that you understand and
sign this document before you complete your enrolment and pay your fees. Then keep a copy of the signed agreement for your records.
As an applicant for enrolment in GLS courses, I agree to abide by the following:
- I understand that some courses at GLS (EAP, IELTS Preparation and Cambridge Exam Preparation), require a prerequisite level of English
for entry.
- I understand that on commencement, GLS will test my English language ability and place me in an appropriate class level according to
my English ability.
- I understand that I will be assessed by the College during the progress of my course and agree to accept the decision of the College
in relation to this placement and assessment.
- I understand that on arrival and during my course, the College has a duty by law to check that my visa details are correct and may need
to notify any changes to the Australian Immigration Department if necessary.
- I understand that if I hold an Australian Student Visa, I must maintain at least 80% attendance during my course. I also understand
that the College has an obligation to report me to Immigration authorities if my attendance is less than 80% or my performance in the
course is consistently unsatisfactory.
- I understand that GLS will provide a letter of release for those students who have completed 6 months of their principle course at GLS,
and who wish to continue study with another registered provider in Australia. This letter will be of no cost to the student.
If the application for transfer is denied by GLS then the reasons for the refusal will be given in writing and the student will be
informed of their right to appeal.
- I understand that a full week’s tuition is payable in weeks that contain a public holiday. I undertake to notify the College within
7 days, of any change in address in Australia (Immigration requirement for Australian Student Visa holders).
- I understand that any school-age children or other dependants who accompany me will be required to pay full fees if they attend
an Australian private or government school.
- I understand that the College is required to share personal information about its students with the Australian Government and
other designated authorities, including the Tuition fees Assurance Scheme and the ESOS Assurance Fund Manager.
- Disclaimer: I understand that Gold Coast Language Schools Gold Coast has the right to alter its fees and conditions, cancel or
defer its courses and alter class timetables at any time without notice.
Refunds of Fees and Dispute Resolution at GOLD COAST LANGUAGE SCHOOLS
Please refer to the College’s Refund Policy below. The College provides trained Counsellors to help you with any personal, or
course-related problems and to explain any decision of the College. GLS also has a Dispute Resolution Process that allows you to appeal to
an independent arbiter, or the CRICOS Registration Unit (Queensland Department of Education), if you are unhappy with that decision
at any time. You may also take action under Australian Consumer Protection laws if you are still unhappy.
Details of the Refund Policy and the Dispute Resolution Process can be found on our website at www.gls.qld.edu.au
- All Refunds are subject to $185 cancellation fee regardless of a situation where a student’s visa application is denied by Immigration.
- Refund of Tuition Fees if Visa denied by Immigration:
A refund of tuition fees (as shown in the GLS Application Form) less bank fees if applicable, will be made where a student's visa
application is denied by Immigration. In this case, written proof of denial from Australian Embassy must accompany the request
for refund.
- Cancellation of a course by a student prior to course Commencement:
Where a student cancels his or her enrolment prior to the date of the scheduled course, a pro-rata refund will be made as under:
a. If the course is cancelled 14 days or more before commencement, the tuition fees will be refunded, less bank fees if applicable.
b. If a course is cancelled less than 14 days before commencement 60% of the tuition fees will be refunded, less bank fees if
applicable.
- Cancellations after the student's course have commenced:
No refunds of any kind will be made once the student's course has commenced, unless the participant has a legitimate complaint against
the College that can be substantiated under the Consumer Protection Laws of the Commonwealth of Australia, or the State of Queensland.
Note:
(i) Course deferments cannot be converted to cash refunds under any circumstances.
(ii) The College does not offer a deferment, or transfer pre-paid fees to another person.
- In all cases the Homestay placement fee is available for refund only if Homestay has not already been arranged at the student's request.
- Request for Refunds:
Requests for refund must be made in writing and forwarded to the College Director. An acknowledgement of the request will be sent
immediately to the address/person nominated in the request, (or the last known address held on file for that student.) If the refund
request is approved, payment will be made either in the form of a cheque made out in Australian dollars ($AUD) to the enrolled Student,
or by overseas transfer. The cheque will be posted to the nominated address, or made available for collection from Administration.
All refunds will be processed and paid within four (4) weeks of the receipt of the written request.
- Rights of International Students in Refund Disputes:
In the case of a dispute over a refund, international students may nominate a support person to accompany them at any stage of
the dispute resolution process. If necessary, the College can also arrange an independent mediator through the Australian Council
of Private Education and Training, (ACPET). Regardless of the outcome of the College’s decision on the granting of a refund, under
Australia’s consumer protection laws the student still has the right to take further action and pursue other legal remedies under
Australian and Queensland Law.
- Provider Default:
In the unlikely event of GLS not being able to provide a course in which a student has already enrolled, all fees including Homestay
Arrangement fee if Homestay has not already been arranged at the student’s request will be refunded within 2 weeks.
Please Note: If you are under 18 years of age and would like to apply for study at Gold Coast Language Schools, you will need to have
welfare arrangements in place in order to lodge your student visa application
I have read and understood the above policies, terms and conditions of enrolment and agree to abide by these terms and conditions and
accept the College’s Refund Policy.
